We say what we mean on architecture, security, and risk. Clear trade-offs, documented decisions, and reviewable delivery: that is how trust is earned.
We take responsibility for the outcomes we commit to, from design through run. We build systems and runbooks that don’t depend on a single engineer keeping it all in their head.
We stay current with the same discipline we apply to delivery. Monthly internal sessions cover customer work, deep-dives, and lessons learned. Pluralsight, A Cloud Guru, and certification time are funded as part of the job. Spikes and RFCs are how we evaluate new technology: carefully, and only when there is a reason worth the cost.
Client engineers stay in the loop: pairing, reviews, and knowledge transfer, so the platform keeps improving after we step back.
We work the way the platforms we build are meant to work: explainable, reviewable, and shared. The mechanism is unglamorous on purpose.
Once a month, engineers present customer work, technical deep-dives, demos, experiments, and what didn’t work. We call them What The Faqtory! (WTF) sessions. They are how we keep tribal knowledge out of heads and into the room.
Active Pluralsight and A Cloud Guru access, a budget for certifications, and study agreements where the topic justifies it. Cloud and the toolchain move; the team moves with it.
We visit and speak at meetups, follow the AWS, Azure, and Kubernetes communities, and support engineering events that keep the field honest. The community is where signal lives, before it becomes a vendor slide.
How we think about delivery
Founded by engineers, for the engineers we wanted to stand alongside: people who take automation as seriously as we do.
In 2018, Mike Dielen and Joep van der Ploeg started exploring what a small, senior cloud consultancy could look like. The Factory was registered in February 2019, originally as a trademark within the CC Group.
Since January 2022 we operate as The Factory B.V., an independent company focused on building platforms our clients can run themselves.
