Senior architects, on your side of the table

The Factory works with you as a strategic partner. We review and evolve your IT and cloud strategy on AWS and Azure, and senior architects can act as CTO or lead architect on your behalf when that helps. The brief is always the same: clear architectural decisions, controlled operating expenses, and a roadmap that holds up under scrutiny.

Trusted advisory is not a one-off opinion: it is a steady relationship with the same engineers who would later build the landing zone or operate the platform. Advice stays grounded because those architects still ship on AWS, Azure, and Kubernetes week to week, including through our internal engineering forums and certification rhythm.

Where we add the most value

  • Cloud and IT strategy: multi-year direction grounded in what your engineers can actually deliver.
  • Architecture and governance: reviewable decisions, a written ADR trail, and steering committees that work.
  • FinOps and cost discipline: visibility, tagging, and decisions that keep run-cost predictable.
  • CTO / lead architect on assignment: a senior pair of hands when you need one for a quarter or a year.
Our approach

How trusted advisory runs in practice

Calm, deliberate, and documented: three concerns we treat seriously on every assignment.

Listen and assess

We start with the people running the platform: engineering, security, finance: and the existing environment. The output is a shared, honest picture of where you are and what gets in the way.

Decide on paper

Architectural decisions get written down: ADRs, target architectures, and a sequenced roadmap your steering committee can actually stand behind. No verbal agreements, no surprises.

Stay close

We stay reachable between formal moments: reviewing designs, sitting in on architecture boards, sharpening proposals before they leave the building. Trusted, not transactional.

Why The Factory

Senior, accountable, and engineering-led

Senior by default

You get an architect with a decade-plus of cloud and platform experience: not a graduate consultant briefed last week.

Vendor-honest

ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and NEN 4400-1 certified. AWS and Azure where each fits, hyperscaler-native where it makes sense, neutral where it doesn't.

Build-capable

We advise on what we also build and run: landing zones, migrations, platform engineering, and managed operations.

Our trusted advisory across the Netherlands

The Factory is a Dutch cloud consultancy based in Rijswijk (Zuid-Holland). We work with organisations across the Randstad (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Eindhoven), and with customers elsewhere in the European Union. Our architects and platform engineers operate in Dutch and English, with experience on AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments.

  • Based in Rijswijk: on-site across the Randstad, remote elsewhere in the EU
  • NEN 4400-1, ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified
  • Bilingual delivery in Dutch and English
  • EU data residency, NIS2, DORA, and GDPR factored into the design
Who we work with

Mostly mid-size and enterprise organisations across the Netherlands: in financial services, public sector, healthcare, education, industry, and SaaS. Engagements range from a short cloud assessment to long-running managed cloud operations.

Talk to an engineer
Behind every assignment

The same engineers stay on the work.

  • Documented decisions. Architecture, trade-offs, and runbooks live in the same repository as the code: reviewable on day one and on day 200.
  • Monthly WTF sessions. Engineers walk through customer work, technical deep-dives, experiments, and what didn’t work. What The Faqtory!: our standing internal review.
  • Standing learning investment. Active Pluralsight and A Cloud Guru access, certification time, and study agreements where the depth justifies it.

The point isn’t novelty. The point is that two years in, the platform still makes sense to the people running it. Read about our engineering culture
