Automation as the operating model, not a side project

Automation reduces how often engineers wait on tickets for accounts, access, or patching, and it gives leadership predictable evidence for audits. It spans Infrastructure as Code, pipelines, policy gates, runbooks, and self-service paths so product teams consume platforms instead of negotiating them.

We build automation across the lifecycle: provision (Terraform, OpenTofu), configure (Ansible), deliver (GitOps with ArgoCD / Flux), govern (OPA, Sentinel, native cloud policies) and observe (Prometheus, Grafana, native cloud monitors).

What "automated" actually means here

  • Provisioning a new account or workload runs from a pull request, not a ticket.
  • Patching, upgrades and certificate rotation run on a calendar, not on a panic.
  • Bad changes are blocked at PR time by policy, not after the outage.
  • Cost, security and compliance dashboards refresh themselves.
  • The platform tells you when something has drifted: you don't go looking.
Our approach

How we automate cloud platforms

Three intertwined tracks we run on every engagement.

Paved roads

Self-service patterns for the 80% of requests product teams have: a new service, a new environment, a new secret, a new database. Codified, documented, available behind a pull request.

Policy as code

Security, network and tagging rules expressed as code (OPA, Sentinel, native cloud policies) and run inside CI. Bad changes never reach production; auditors see the same evidence as engineers.

Operational automation

Patching, scaling, fail-over and incident response encoded in Ansible playbooks, Lambda / Functions and event-driven workflows: fewer humans on the critical path, more on the design path.

Outcomes

What real automation pays back

You want a small platform team to serve a large product organisation without becoming the bottleneck.

  • Lower cost-to-serve: fewer FTEs needed per environment as you scale.
  • Higher reliability: automated change is more boring and more predictable.
  • Faster product delivery: paved roads remove infrastructure tickets from the critical path.
  • Better security posture: guardrails enforced at PR time, not at audit time.
  • Cost control: autoscaling, schedules and FinOps automation built into the platform.
  • Sustainable on-call: tier-1 incidents handled by code, not pagers.
Use cases

Where customers ask us to help

Platform team kick-off

You are forming an internal platform team and need a credible automation backbone in months, not years.

Reducing manual change

Your change advisory board is the bottleneck. We automate the safe changes so the board can focus on the rest.

Compliance & audit at scale

You operate in a regulated sector and need policy-as-code, evidence collection and continuous compliance dashboards.

Why The Factory

Automation is what we do

Automate-everything mindset

Our engineers' default question is "can this be code?". You'll feel the difference in week one.

Security & compliance certified

ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and NEN 4400-1 certified. Compliance-aware automation isn’t an upsell.

Operate or transfer

We can run the automated platform 24/7, or hand it back when your team is ready.

Our Cloud automation services across the Netherlands

The Factory is a Dutch cloud consultancy based in Rijswijk (Zuid-Holland). We work with organisations across the Randstad (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Eindhoven), and with customers elsewhere in the European Union. Our architects and platform engineers operate in Dutch and English, with experience on AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments.

  • Based in Rijswijk: on-site across the Randstad, remote elsewhere in the EU
  • NEN 4400-1, ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified
  • Bilingual delivery in Dutch and English
  • EU data residency, NIS2, DORA, and GDPR factored into the design
Who we work with

Mostly mid-size and enterprise organisations across the Netherlands: in financial services, public sector, healthcare, education, industry, and SaaS. Engagements range from a short cloud assessment to long-running managed cloud operations.

Request a cloud automation assessment

We'll review your platform, your pipelines and your operational runbooks, and come back with the automation work that pays back fastest, sequenced by impact.

Talk to an engineer
Behind every assignment

The same engineers stay on the work.

  • Documented decisions. Architecture, trade-offs, and runbooks live in the same repository as the code: reviewable on day one and on day 200.
  • Monthly WTF sessions. Engineers walk through customer work, technical deep-dives, experiments, and what didn’t work. What The Faqtory!: our standing internal review.
  • Standing learning investment. Active Pluralsight and A Cloud Guru access, certification time, and study agreements where the depth justifies it.

The point isn’t novelty. The point is that two years in, the platform still makes sense to the people running it. Read about our engineering culture
